Attorney Referrals
- 400+ Jury Trials
- Over $100 Million Recovered
- 110+ Years Combined Experience
If your client has a catastrophic injury or wrongful death case that falls outside your practice, we want to hear from you. McDonald & Cody handles the cases that most firms are not equipped to take. We prepare every case for trial, we have the financial resources to see it through, and we protect the relationship you have built with your client.
Many of the referral calls we receive come from lawyers who have worked with us before or have heard about us from colleagues. If you are reaching out for the first time, here is what you need to know.
What Cases We Handle
We take serious, high-stakes cases involving permanent life-altering injuries, defective products, and wrongful death. We also handle medical malpractice, birth injuries, commercial trucking accidents, premises liability, over-served bar customer cases, sexual assault and abuse, and select business litigation.
We decline multiple cases every week. If we accept a referral from you, it means the firm believes in the case and is prepared to commit the full resources of the firm to it. We do not take files to warehouse them.
If you have a client with a serious injury and you are not sure whether it fits, call us. The conversation is confidential, and there is no obligation. We will tell you honestly what we think.
Why Referring Attorneys Choose McDonald & Cody
When you send a serious case to another firm, you are putting your reputation on the line. Your client trusts you. They will hold you responsible for who you sent them to. That weight is real, and we take it seriously.
Here is what matters most to the attorneys who refer cases to us.
- Your client will be treated with the same care and attention as if they had come to us directly. They will speak with an attorney, not a case manager.
- We will keep you informed. You will not have to chase us for updates. If something important happens in the case, you will hear from us.
- We have the financial resources to take any case to its conclusion. We will not be pressured into a cheap settlement because litigation is expensive.
- We prepare every case for trial from day one. Insurance companies know this. It changes how they respond to us.
- Our trial verdicts run 2 to 4 times higher than initial settlement offers. That is documented, side-by-side data from real cases.
- Referral fees are handled professionally, in compliance with Georgia Bar Rule 1.5(e), and we will discuss the arrangement clearly before we proceed.
The Track Record Behind the Referral
McDonald & Cody has over $100 million in total recoveries, 400+ jury trials, and a 100% trial win rate. The firm has been trusted since 1969. Three generations of attorneys. 110+ years of combined legal experience.
Recent results include a $33 million settlement against a lithium-ion battery manufacturer, a $17.2 million wrongful death verdict in Gwinnett County in 2025, and documented trial verdicts that came back 2 to 4 times higher than what insurance companies first offered.
These results are not the product of volume. They are the product of preparation, selectivity, and a genuine willingness to go to trial when a settlement offer does not reflect the full value of the case.
What We Bring to Every Referred Case
- Deep investigation from day one. We find what other firms miss. In one case, our investigation uncovered a nationwide product defect no other firm had identified.
- The financial resources to hire the right experts, retain the right witnesses, and litigate through depositions, motions, and trial without cutting corners.
- Deep appellate knowledge at the trial level. Our attorneys include a former U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit clerk who spent three years writing opinions and working directly with federal judges. He brings that understanding of how appellate decisions are made to trial strategy on every case we take.
- Trial experience in courts across Georgia. We know the judges, the local rules, and the communities that make up juries in this state.
- A selective caseload that ensures your client's case gets the time and attention it deserves, not a fraction of it.
How the Referral Process Works
Call us. That is where every referral starts. We do not require forms or intake questionnaires before we will speak with you. Tell us about the case. We will tell you honestly whether it is something we can take.
If the case is not right for us, we will tell you promptly and confidentially. We will not leave you or your client waiting.
If we agree to move forward, we will discuss referral fee arrangements in compliance with Georgia Bar Rule 1.5(e) before any agreement is made. The terms will be clear, in writing, and handled professionally.
From there, we take over the case fully. We handle all communication with your client, all litigation expenses, and all case management. You will receive regular updates. If something important happens in the case, you will hear from us promptly.
Most cases conclude in approximately 18 months.
Your client’s experience reflects on you. We treat every referred client as if they came to us through their own trust in this firm, because in a real sense, they did.
Cases That Are a Good Fit for Referral
- Catastrophic or permanent injuries: spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injury, severe burns, amputation, permanent disability.
- Wrongful death: collision, product failure, medical error, or any situation where negligence or misconduct caused a death.
- Defective products: especially lithium-ion battery fires, propane explosions, defective vehicles, or defective medical devices.
- Commercial trucking accidents involving serious injury or death.
- Medical malpractice or birth injuries where the standard of care was clearly breached.
- Over-served bar customer cases where a licensed establishment continued serving a visibly intoxicated person who then caused harm.
- Cases where other firms have said no, where liability is contested, or where the insurance offer is far below the case's actual value.
